Painting on music!

This in one of my favourite 'last lesson' projects.

The kids adore it and we realize an important part of our curriculum this way.

The children draw a little man/woman with 20 different shapes as a hairdo.  They do this in waterproof markers, so when they paint it in watercolor later on, the markers won't run out.

Before we start painting we talk about the meaning of certain colors.  Like blue is a sad, cold color.  Yellow is a warm, happy color.  Green is related with nature and luck.  Red is the color of love, blood and power.  Purple is the mysterious color.  And more of these.
We also discussed different kind of lines.  Wavy lines tell a different story than dotted lines.  The different rhythms are important too.

They have to make sure they only use lines and colors!  It's an abstract work.  I tell them hearts, tears, balloons, ... are not done in this drawing.

I have a CD with very different kinds of music.  From the four seasons of Verdi to AC/DC.  Slow and fast.
Each song gets a different box.  The children chose their own color and own abstract way to fill the 20 different shapes of the hairdo.

The result is alway very good!  As you all can see in the pictures:

  2. Those are for me (the curious teacher!)
I'd like to know what colors they use with a certain song :)
