A name Mandala: Step by step

You can find this project a number of times in the  Artsonia gallery.
As wel in this way as in rectangles or alien names.

I'm going to try this with my 7th graders with learning difficulties in september.

I did have to find out how it works and what was the best/easiest way to instruct the children.
That is the reason why I made this 'Step by Step' instruction for other teachers who want to try this one.

Fold the corner of the sheet of paper to the edge.  That way you get a perfect square.

Cut of off the rectangle on the right.

Fold one opposite corner to the other.  Defold and do it again for the other corners.

Defold again and fold one edge to the other.

Fold the rectangle once more so you get a folded square. If you want to make a rectangle version you are finished with the shape and you should skip the next two steps.

If you want to make a circle version you should draw a curved line from one corner to the other.

Cug off the side.

Defold and write your name in the triangle. Try to let the letters touch the sides of the triangle as many times as possible.  So make sure the letters are large enough!

Use the window to copy the shapes into each other triangle of the circle/rectangle.

When finished it looks like this.
They should color the design with markers.  Let them color each symmetric shape in the same color.

Let them chose between warm or cool colors.

  3. I'm doing the same lesson, too. It seems the hardest part for the kids is folding the paper!
